How does this represent “Excellence in Engagement”?

SailGP is disrupting the sport of sailing by bringing its high-drama, action-packed racing to viewers' homes in 212 territories around the world including landmark deals with the UK’s ITV, France’s Canal Plus, New Zealand’s Discovery, Australia’s Fox and USA’s CBS. The world’s most exciting race on water grows the audience of a sport that is traditionally hard to follow by embedding technology and innovation into its core. This is demonstrated by the record-breaking viewership figures SailGP broke in Season 3 when a CBS broadcast featuring the Spain Sail Grand Prix presented by NEAR, gained an average of 1.636M viewers. SailGP offers three language feeds plus multi-option commercial break offerings, all generated from a single gallery using graphics systems to generate the multi-language feeds, allowing SailGP to get the widest audience whilst servicing various network needs in the most efficient way. Everything is brought to life by SailGP’s patented technology LiveLineFX, an Augmented Reality Graphics system that creates an environment to make sailing understandable and exciting to new fans. LiveLine provides viewers with information on key race elements – from the field of play with boundary graphics, start/finish lines, who is ahead or behind, turning mark/gate circles and more.

Strategy & Execution

SailGP’s goal is to be the world’s most sustainable and purpose-driven global sports and entertainment property, so production operation is completely remote. Event broadcasts are enabled by 24 boat-mounted, remote-controlled agile cameras, two helicopter-based cameras, three chase boat cameras and ancillary ENG cameras on shore as well as Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) which derives 30,000 data points every second from 125 sensors onboard the high-tech, hydrofoiling catamarans, producing around 1.15B data requests per F50 per hour. Innovation and cutting-edge technology sits at the heart of every production, even as SailGP operates in the harshest and most technologically-unfriendly environment, water. Each F50 has waterproof cameras designed to use H265 video encoding to deliver four camera angles from every boat to the shore. Using SMPTE 2022 IP standards, the transport stream from the boat is delivered to the production studio based in London, enabling a low-latency, identical signal that is decoded in the studio for remote production. Events are live streamed on SailGP’s YouTube as an easily-accessible format for global fans to tune in. The combination of OCI, LiveLineFX and T-Mobile 5G Advanced Network Solutions has contributed to sailing as a sport, moreover, SailGP gaining traction on a global scale.
