Soaring Through History: Bruins Centennial Celebration Game
The 7th Annual Awards
- Best Use of Visual Storytelling
ABOUT THIS ENTRY
Historical drone film featured nearly all of the organization’s living retired number players and captains. Released as a promotional spot for the Bruins Centennial game against the Montreal Canadiens, the video served as a precursor to the events surrounding the game including the pre-game ceremony.
In partnership with JayByrd Films, the Bruins crafted a storyline that featured prominent alums – as well as some of the organization’s other recognizable personalities – scattered throughout TD Garden as they reminisced about some of the greatest moments in the 100-year history of the franchise.
How does this represent "Excellence in Engagement"?
The benchmark set with this video expands upon the popularity and visual excellence of drone based videos by including a historical narrative and elements of storytelling. This project separates itself from other drone projects by focusing on the storytelling elements and leaning heavily into the rich history of the Boston Bruins.
Objective
The objective was to create an engaging celebratory video that not only represented the rich history of the Boston Bruins, but also built excitement leading up to the 100th anniversary game versus the Montreal Canadiens.
Strategy & Execution
Utilizing the visually stunning drone work of JayByrd films created an immersive experience for fans that recalled historical moments and figures of 100 years of the Boston Bruins. Rather than sitting down these important figures in interview settings we placed them throughout TD Garden and celebrated their place amongst Bruins lore. With the modern sports fan in mind, we wanted to create something unique that celebrated the past but also looks towards the future of the Boston Bruins.
