The Offensive Line
The 7th Annual Awards
- Best New Podcast
ABOUT THIS ENTRY
“The Offensive Line," hosted by social media superstar Annie Agar, is a sports-comedy show that aims to be the most fun football show there is. After growing a significant following across TikTok, Twitter and Instagram, Annie is working with Wondery and Blue Duck Media to bring that audience to her new podcast, through social-friendly concepts and non-traditional podcast segments like commercial parodies.
How does this represent "Excellence in Engagement"?
Annie has quickly distinguished herself as a multi-platform star, and due to her foundation as an interactive social media creator, The Offensive Line is very audience-centric, with opportunities for listeners to provide feedback that directly influences future segments.
Objective
A few years ago, Annie Agar started making “Zoom meetings” of college and NFL football teams that became super popular on social media. Eventually, she turned her growing social feed into bigger projects, including some local television in the Chicago area. But what would a long-form national podcast with her look like?
“The Offensive Line” is a sports-comedy show that aims to be the most fun football show there is. Wondery and Blue Duck Media's collective goal was to convert Annie’s significant TikTok, Twitter and Instagram followings into podcast listeners, mostly through social-friendly concepts and non-traditional podcast segments like commercial parodies.
Strategy & Execution
The production team, which is led by Annie, Blue Duck Media and Wondery, have treated The Offensive Line more like a TV show than a podcast. The content strategy has been to take chances on shorter, sharable segments instead of longer-form conversations more typical of the medium. Drawing on previous experience among the production team (many of them worked on Garbage Time with Katie Nolan and other sports-comedy projects), the show has pushed the envelope in terms of what podcasts can be.
