Through The Wire Podcast

House of Highlights

2023 Nominee ✨
  • Best Sports Podcast

ABOUT THIS ENTRY

This submission is for your consideration to select the Through The Wire podcast as a finalist for the Best Sports Podcast at the Hashtag Sports Awards. Through The Wire’s incredible year in 2022 showcase why it’s the top-of-the-line sports podcast in the market.

How does this represent “Excellence in Engagement”?

Through The Wire takes fan engagement with each episode when the hosts conduct the “Fan Question” segment. It’s so easy for fans to feel like their voice isn’t being heard when they interact with the major shows, but the TTW hosts make it known that their audience’s thoughts and opinions on the topic matter to them that they’ll field questions and address them that ultimately drive the overall discussion of the podcast.

Other podcast shows in the industry may have their own set programming but TTW goes the extra mile to listen and incorporate the thoughts of those who have the greatest impact on the show’s success—the fans.

Objective

As the first podcast signed by the company, House of Highlights welcomed the Through The Wire (TTW) podcast to the HoH family in 2018 to create the ultimate NBA fan podcast hosted by four childhood friends talking all things NBA both on and off the court.

The chemistry that Pierre, Kenny, Darrick, and Mike all share makes for the top listening experience that takes you back to the passionate sports debates and hilarious conversations that we all experience in the locker room, classroom, and lunch tables growing up.

With so many podcasts in the industry currently, Through The Wire is able to stand out amongst the rest from their familiarity with each other, knowledge of the game, and ability to captivate their audience by speaking with them instead of at them.

Strategy & Execution

Most podcasts focus on the audio, TTW connects with its audience through its video upload of each episode. Fans can decide to listen to the audio or watch everything going on in the TTW studio while the guys film each episode.

By investing so much attention and resources in the video component of the show, the TTW YouTube channel and TikTok accounts have become pivotal to increasing the following and awareness of the podcast. When it comes to TikTok, TTW is able to clip out the best moments and share them directly with its target Gen-Z audience with a love of basketball.

With each podcast episode running around an hour and a half, giving fans the top moments from each show keeps them engaged and up to date with the show. Likewise, in addition to full episodes of the podcast, TTW capitalizes on YouTube Shorts to expand its impact on the video site similar to the way short-form video is used on TikTok.

However, TTW also uses YouTube as an opportunity to share other videos like player interviews, behind-the-scenes, and daily vlog content that brings the audience closer to the hosts and ultimately closer to the podcast itself.
