For the Anaheim Ducks and Honda Center's 30th Anniversaries they partnered with punk rock band The Offspring to celebrate all three Orange County institutions through two special events that combined hockey and music to honor their shared impact on local culture. Through collaborative content, merch and activations the collaboration enhanced the fan experience and offered a unique set of in-game experiences.
How does this represent "Excellence in Engagement"?
By creating the NHL's first artist-themed game and integrating The Offspring's essence into every facet of the Ducks' event, the campaign not only captivated fans, but also set a new benchmark for cross-brand collaboration and community engagement. It also found ways to maintain engagement with hockey fans beyond game night and build a part of the fandom that transcended the sport.
Objective
The ambition to create a legendary and memorable 30th anniversary season for the Ducks that celebrated "Hockey Our Way"—a mentality that is grounded in all things unique to Orange County—led to the partnership with The Offspring, the Anaheim Ducks, and Honda Center. The campaign integrated their distinct Orange County legacies into a cohesive celebration that marked all three 30th anniversaries and enhanced the fandom in addition to driving ticket sales.
Strategy & Execution
The strategy was to harness the synergy of The Offspring, the Anaheim Ducks, and Honda Center, integrating their distinct Orange County legacies into a cohesive celebration that built brand affinity.
The band was deeply involved in the project, from crafting beers at Brewery X to collaborating on the poster art, GIFs, and social media stickers. They even starred in content used in the teaser campaign on social media leading up to the events.
On game day, the team's store was transformed into a pop-up record shop selling 25 unique Anaheim Ducks x The Offspring merch items only available to game ticket holders. There were limited edition jerseys, hats, and tees, along with autographed copies of Puck Punks a limited edition Anaheim Ducks x The Offspring vinyl.
There was also "Come Out and Playa," a Mexican Lager-style beer created by Brewery on offer. The Offspring kicked off the evening with a ceremonial "Take Flight" button push and puck drop, were featured in 30 unique jumbotron moments, led a mid-game sing-along, developed an official Ducks goal song, and even curated the in-bowl playlist for the evening. All night long, fans were immersed in cobranded elements, video graphics, and photo opportunities.
