Genius Sports is transforming how sports bettors watch and engage with live sports through BetVision. By bringing together ultra-low latency NFL in-market and national games, intelligent in-game betting offers and an integrated betslip — all within a sportsbook mobile app — BetVision delivers a seamless immersive experience for the betting sports fan. Having wrapped up its second season live with the NFL, it is the first true example of content that bridges the gap between sports, media and betting.

BetVision offers a glimpse into the future of sports media, where every second of live action can be leveraged to deliver a more engaging, immersive fan experience. This is more than just a betting innovation—it’s a fundamental shift in how sports fans interact with live content.

For the first time, a sportsbook app isn’t just a transactional betting tool—it’s an entertainment platform where fans can watch, interact, and wager in real-time.

As the popularity of in-play betting continues to grow, BetVision ensures bettors have instant access to contextual, relevant betting options.

As we expand BetVision to include soccer and basketball in 2025, it continues to set a new benchmark for sports betting engagement— the first true example of the convergence of sports, betting and media.

Objective

NFL fans expect cutting-edge viewing experiences, from NFL RedZone’s updates for fantasy football fans to CBS’ Nickelodeon alternate telecasts using AR-graphic overlays. Yet, live innovation for sports betting has lagged behind, failing to match the interactive, data-rich broadcasts fans are accustomed to.

This gap exists despite the demand—28% of U.S. adults bet on the NFL, and 80% of bettors say wagering enhances live sports (AGA, Deloitte).

Meanwhile, second-screen usage is already a staple of sports viewership, especially among Gen Z, 87% of whom use a second screen during live games (Deloitte). Yet the experience remains fragmented—bettors must navigate multiple apps and sites to find stats, check for social media updates and place bets.

Genius Sports recognised the need for an all-in-one, immersive live betting experience—leading to the launch of BetVision in 2023. For the first time, BetVision allows users to watch a low-latency live NFL in-market or national game, analyze team & player statistics and place bets via an interactive single-screen mobile view within the sportsbook app.

Our goal for the 2024 NFL season was to add deeper personalization and interactivity, integrating betting fully into the broadcast experience.

Strategy & Execution

Streaming a game via a sportsbook is viewed by some fans as passive, with no real integration of betting odds into the experience. However, BetVision’s intelligent interface dynamically integrates these betting opportunities based on in-game events.

This is especially important for NFL broadcasts, where fantasy football and stat-heavy coverage have conditioned fans to make data-driven bets. As a result, derivative betting on player performance and time-based outcomes has surged, with 30% of NFL wagers now coming from player props (Eilers & Krejcik Gaming).

BetVision’s updated UX can surface additional live betting markets—including player props and micro-markets like Next Drive Outcome and Next Touchdown Scorer. These markets are presented based on the in-game action, ensuring bettors only see the most relevant opportunities. This hinges on an ultra-low latency stream ensuring real-time alignment with betting markets — powered by Genius Sports’ venue feeds.

BetVision’s augmentation mode uses graphic overlays to help bettors track players and inform bets.

We also added personalised bet tracking, letting users monitor their bet’s progress in-stream while still watching the game.
