The Golden State Warriors YouTube channel, which leads the NBA in followers and video views, continues to look for new ways to innovate on the platform. In 2024, the Warriors combined a mix of longform videos focused on basketball storytelling and short-form, snackable content on Shorts to become the first NBA team to reach 2M subscribers.
How does this represent "Excellence in Engagement"?
73.5% of the Warriors video views on YouTube came from Shorts in 2024, showing a platform-specific strategy and willingness to lead into platform-specific best practices. This shift in strategy led to a 29.2% increase in Shorts views YoY and a 4% increase in total views on Warriors YouTube year over year.
Objective
Be the best basketball storytellers on the Internet and be a source of truth for Warriors fans around the globe. Utilize basketball influencers and YouTube Creators to reach new audiences, and deliver high-quality content to our global fanbase on this always-on platform.
Strategy & Execution
Our YouTube page is a mix of longform storytelling (all-access with Team USA, a throwback three-point contest with Warriors legends, behind the scene's of the team's annual visit to the San Quentin penetentery) and snackable short-form content (linked on the media tab).
We craft custom thumbnails, maximize search engine optimization, and A-B test to deliver fans a diverse, engaging, and informative menu of content.
