ABOUT THIS ENTRY
TNF’s weekly alternate broadcast, Prime Vision with Next Gen Stats, continues to stand as a next generation viewing experience for fans. Prime Vision’s on-screen graphic overlays, distinctive vantage points from TNF’s multiple Skycam angle and All-22 camera angle, new AI-powered features - known as Prime Insights - and in-game reports from Analytics Expert Sam Schwartzstein, enhance the storytelling and viewer experience. Multiple AI-powered features allowed fans to process each play like a quarterback. Before a play, Coverage ID predicted the type of defense played, while Defensive Vulnerabilities identified weak spots in the defense. Defensive Alerts returned with an upgraded model that highlighted potential blitzers and reacted dynamically to player movement. After a snap, Pressure Alerts highlighted players who were likely to pressure the QB and disrupt the play. Prime Vision also became the first broadcast to put real-time graphic overlays over SkyCam, allowing viewers to see the game like a QB.
How does this represent "Excellence in Engagement"?
Prime Vision with Next Gen Stats helped TNF establish numerous engagement benchmarks and drove social conversation that highlighted the feed's success. Following the switch to the High-Sky camera angle midway through the season, Prime Vision received more than 315,000 mentions, including viral posts praising the stream that garnered hundreds of thousands of views.
Prime Video's introduction of AI-driven innovations into Thursday Night Football is evolving the enjoyment of live sports beyond the traditional one-way linear relationship, transforming it into a customized and immersive online experience for millions of fans. These AI-powered features, first debuting in Prime Vision, allow fans to place themselves in the coach's shoes, read plays like a quarterback, and better understand pivotal aspects of the game. Prime Video is pioneering the integration of AI into live sports, and given the success of these features, will drive further innovation across the industry and propel the convergence between live sports and technology forward.
Objective
When Prime Video launched exclusive streams of TNF, it marked the first time a technology company presented a full-season package of NFL games. The TNF team began experimenting with ways to bring fans closer to the action. Among the innovations was an alternate stream, “Prime Vision with Next Gen Stats”. Presented simultaneously alongside the main broadcast, Prime Vision presents fans an opportunity to place themselves in the coach’s shoes, read plays like a quarterback, and learn more about the game. Prime Vision also serves as an essential laboratory for experiments and an incubator for innovations that eventually advance to the main broadcast. The AI-powered ‘Defensive Alerts’ feature emerged as a breakthrough in 2023, migrating to the main feed for 2024. The first predictive behavior AI model employed within a live NFL broadcast, the feature is driven by a proprietary deep learning network that gets stronger as more plays unfold. It tracks the movements of defensive players pre-snap and identifies “players of interest” in real time likely to rush the quarterback. With this technology, Prime Video, and the weekly alternate stream Prime Vision, is bringing millions closer to the game and demonstrating the power of AI to improve the fan experience.
Strategy & Execution
Prime Video is shaping the NFL viewing experience with new AI-powered innovations, developed to enhance storytelling and elevate fan engagement and making TNF a must-see every week. A key component in Prime Video's TNF coverage is Prime Vision with Next Gen Stats, offering real-time statistics, graphic overlays and analytics that make it the ultimate destination for fantasy football enthusiasts. Viewers can now track their players' performances as the game unfolds, adding an extra layer of excitement to the broadcast. The introduction of the High-Sky camera angle has been a game-changer, drawing comparisons to the popular Madden NFL video games. This immersive perspective plunges viewers into the heart of the on-field action, appealing to a modern audience that appreciates the aesthetics of sports video games, generating significant buzz across social media platforms like TikTok, X, and Reddit. Prime Video's innovative approach and integration of technology is kicking off an era of innovation that will fundamentally change how NFL viewers understand and interact with the game. Prime Video, and Prime Vision with Next Gen Stats is committed to engaging fans and delivering an unparalleled viewing experience that caters to traditional football fans and a new generation of tech-savvy viewers.
