ABOUT THIS ENTRY

For nearly 80 years, a town in rural Pennsylvania has been home to a longstanding tradition and the pinnacle of youth sports: The Little League World Series. This film is the celebration of all that makes the tournament magical and the memories that last long after the games are over.

How does this represent "Excellence in Engagement"?

Big Dreams expands the definition of fan engagement by shifting focus from outcome to emotional investment. Modern sports audiences already have access to highlights, real-time data and constant analysis. This film offers something different: proximity. By centering the interior lives of twelve-year-olds and their families, it invites viewers to connect not as spectators, but as participants in a formative life moment.

The benchmark it sets is one of depth over volume. Engagement is no longer measured only by viewership, but by resonance. When audiences see vulnerability, doubt and quiet resilience, they recognize themselves. That recognition builds lasting connection beyond a single tournament.

For the industry, the film demonstrates that youth sports can be treated with cinematic seriousness and narrative care. It challenges the assumption that younger athletes require simplified storytelling. Instead, it proves that prestige craft and emotional complexity belong at every level of sport.

By honoring character over spectacle, Big Dreams encourages networks and filmmakers to look inward, to trust patience, and to create sports content that values humanity as much as competition.

Objective

Big Dreams was created to look at the LLWS from the inside out. The event is often defined by competition, spectacle and national attention. I wanted to focus on the emotional experience of the children and the families living it in real time.

At twelve years old, the world still feels tender. Yet these players step onto a global stage carrying the expectations from parents, teammates and entire communities. The goal of the film was to slow that moment down and stay close to humanity.

We sought out the quiet spaces. We prioritized intimacy over highlights, the film honors the vulnerability that exists alongside ambition.

We didn’t want to simply document a tournament, but to preserve a fleeting chapter of childhood.

Strategy & Execution

Big Dreams was designed for a sports audience that no longer consumes games alone. Today’s fan follows athletes beyond the field through social media, behind the scenes content and personal storytelling. We built the film with that expectation in mind, prioritizing access and intimacy over recap.

Rather than focus on game highlights that viewers could already see in real time, we leaned into character. The camera stays close to players and families in private moments, allowing fans to experience the tournament through emotion rather than statistics. This approach mirrors how modern fans connect with sports through personality, vulnerability and authenticity.

The film’s pacing reflects the rhythm of contemporary viewing habits. It moves between high energy stadium scenes and quieter observational moments, creating a dynamic experience that feels immersive but grounded. Visually, we embraced a cinematic style that elevates youth sports to the level of prestige storytelling audiences now expect from sports documentaries.

Ultimately, the work recognizes that today’s sports fan wants more than scores. They want context, humanity and a deeper understanding of the people behind the uniforms.
