ABOUT THIS ENTRY

Full Court Press is a groundbreaking docuseries from Omaha Productions, founded by Peyton Manning, created in partnership with ESPN and Words + Pictures. Across two seasons, the series delivers unprecedented access to elite women’s college basketball stars during a historic surge in the sport’s popularity.

Season one followed Caitlin Clark, Kamilla Cardoso, and Kiki Rice through a record-breaking NCAA season, from Iowa’s historic preseason game to the WNBA Draft. Season two centers on the experiences of sophomore Notre Dame guard Hannah Hidalgo, junior LSU guard Flau’jae Johnson, and graduate student USC forward Kiki Iriafen.

Through extended interviews, fly-on-the-wall footage, and deeply personal storytelling, Full Court Press goes far beyond highlights. It reveals the pressure, poise, and cultural impact of modern female athletes—positioning women’s basketball not as a secondary storyline, but as the defining sports movement of the moment.

How does this represent "Excellence in Engagement"?

The series does not rely solely on buzzer-beaters or trophy celebrations. Instead, it builds emotional equity. By showcasing vulnerability, family dynamics, mental health conversations, and off-court ambitions, the show invites viewers to connect with players as people first and stars second. That emotional access drives sustained engagement far beyond a single tournament cycle.

Season one sparked watch parties among women’s basketball teams nationwide, signaling communal investment. Season two broadened the audience even further as the show earned broader cultural acclaim. Social media conversation surged around episodes, moments, and quotes, reinforcing the athletes’ growing personal brands.

Engagement also extends industry-wide. Expanded network distribution and a quickly greenlit follow-up season demonstrate not just viewership, but demand. By pairing cinematic quality with cultural relevance, Full Court Press has become a catalyst for deeper fandom, broader recognition, and sustained enthusiasm for women’s sports—setting a new benchmark for how the category should be covered and celebrated.

Objective

The objective behind Full Court Press was to put women’s basketball at the center of the sports storytelling conversation and give elite female athletes the depth, respect, and visibility long afforded to their male counterparts.

After establishing itself with acclaimed male-focused docuseries, Omaha Productions set out to apply the same cinematic scale and narrative rigor to women’s sports. Full Court Press built momentum around female sports viewing by humanizing the stars. While the record-breaking stats and big wins guided the storylines, the series left space for each player's personal stories to shine. For example, season two spotlighted Flau’jae Johnson’s duality as an athlete whose cultural reach spans championship basketball and a burgeoning music career. By chronicling her life on and off the court, the series reinforced that modern female athletes are multidimensional figures influencing sport, music, fashion, and youth culture simultaneously.

At its core, the goal was to create the definitive women’s sports docuseries—one that would not only document a movement, but help accelerate it. Full Court Press was built to prove that women’s basketball is a cultural force and athletic feat worthy of premium storytelling.

Strategy & Execution

The strategy was rooted in access and authenticity. From Iowa’s record-shattering preseason game to the WNBA Draft in April, season one followed its athletes through the full arc of a historic year. Cameras captured not just tournament triumphs, but quiet family moments, mental health conversations, and the emotional toll of stardom.

Season two doubled down on this immersive approach by reflecting the struggles of NIL responsibilities and the expectations that come with viral fame. The production team embedded itself in the players’ daily lives, employing a fly-on-the-wall style that preserved spontaneity and vulnerability.

Extended interviews anchored each episode, allowing players to narrate their own journeys. Moments like Kiki Rice’s sessions with her sports psychologist, Kamilla Cardoso’s family time in Brazil, and Clark’s Christmas at home grounded the spectacle of March Madness in human reality. By blending cinematic sports footage with intimate personal storytelling, Full Court Press created a premium, character-driven narrative that rivals the best legacy sports documentaries—while centering women at its core.
