ABOUT THIS ENTRY

Bronx Buds is a groundbreaking kids animated baseball series that has pioneered an innovative sports sponsorship by weaving HexClad, a premium cookware brand, into the narrative world of the show on the YES Network and The Gotham Sports App, transforming brand integration into entertainment for families and young fans.

The partnership comes to life through Papa Sardine’s pizza restaurant, a story-driven setting designed to organically and creatively showcase HexClad cookware within the series.

How does this represent "Excellence in Engagement"?

This work represents excellence in engagement by using animation as the primary engine of connection, rather than relying on dialogue or messaging alone. Engagement was driven through expressive character animation, dynamic movement, and visually rich environments that invited viewers, especially kids and families, into a world they wanted to spend time in.

The work sets a new benchmark by demonstrating that animation-led sports content can deliver both scale and sustained attention when motion is integrated into storytelling and brand expression. Instead of static branded visuals, cookware and environments were brought to life through action, stirring, flipping, serving, making brand moments memorable through movement and character behavior. This approach elevated branded elements into story moments rather than placements.

Looking ahead, this work shows how animation can redefine fan engagement by turning visual design into an emotional experience. It provides a blueprint for the industry to move beyond passive viewing and toward immersive, character-driven worlds that engage fans earlier, hold attention longer, and create deeper recall. By placing animation at the center of engagement strategy, the project points toward a more visually dynamic, entertainment-first future for sports storytelling.

Objective

The primary objective was to use animation as a storytelling and design tool to make branded moments feel emotionally engaging, visually distinctive, and inseparable from the world of the show. Rather than treating animation as decoration or support, the goal was to let character design, environments, and motion drive both narrative and brand expression.

A key creative goal was to introduce kids to sports storytelling through animation that felt energetic, warm, and relatable, using expressive characters, dynamic motion, and stylized environments to capture the joy of baseball and community. The animation needed to appeal to children while also feeling premium enough for parents, balancing playful design with polished execution.

Another objective was to visually integrate the brand in a way that felt natural and story-led. By designing Papa Sardine, his pizza restaurant, and the cooking moments with intention, the animation showcased cookware through action, movement, and character behavior rather than static placement. Pots, pans, and cooking sequences became part of the visual rhythm of the scenes.

Ultimately, the goal was to demonstrate how animation and motion design can elevate branded storytelling, creating a cohesive visual language where character, environment, and brand work together to enhance engagement and memorability.

Strategy & Execution

The strategy was built around the understanding that the modern sports fan, especially kids and families, connects first through visuals, characters, and motion-driven storytelling. Animation was intentionally used as the primary engagement engine, designed to capture attention quickly, sustain energy, and create emotional connection through expressive character performances and dynamic environments.

From the outset, the animation style emphasized warmth, movement, and personality. Character design focused on relatability and charm, while motion choices, such as exaggerated actions, playful timing, and energetic transitions, mirrored the excitement of baseball and everyday life. Environments like Papa Sardine’s pizza restaurant were designed as visually rich, recurring spaces that fans could recognize and emotionally return to.

Executing integrated brand elements through animated action rather than static visuals. Cookware appeared naturally, allowing pots and pans to become part of the scene’s rhythm and storytelling flow. This approach ensured the animation felt entertaining first, with branding embedded through movement and character behavior.

The content was designed for modern viewing habits across linear, streaming, and social platforms, ensuring animation that reads clearly on all screen sizes. By prioritizing motion, personality, and visual storytelling, the work aligned with how today’s fans engage—through immersive, shareable, and visually driven experiences.
