Los Angeles Chargers Minecraft Schedule Release
The 7th Annual Awards
- Best Gaming or Esports Experience

ABOUT THIS ENTRY
The Los Angeles Chargers transformed their schedule release into an immersive gaming experience by building a custom world inside Minecraft. Designed with authentic game mechanics, layered easter eggs, and cinematic storytelling, the project invited fans from both football and gaming communities to explore, decode, and share the experience together.
How does this represent "Excellence in Engagement"?
Rather than borrowing Minecraft aesthetics, we built a playable-feeling world inside the platform itself. Fans recognized the authenticity immediately, sparking organic conversation across sports and gaming communities. Layered easter eggs encouraged repeat viewing and collaborative decoding, extending engagement well beyond a single watch.
Trending in gaming spaces validated credibility within that audience — a rare crossover for an NFL team. The experience expanded what a schedule release can be, transforming it from a passive announcement into a digital world that fans could explore and dissect together.
By meeting gamers where they are, and respecting the culture deeply, the Chargers delivered a fan experience that blurred the line between sports content and gaming entertainment.
Objective
The NFL Schedule Release is one of the rare moments when content teams take center stage. For the Chargers, it’s not just about announcing the games, it’s about creating an experience that launches the season and reaches audiences beyond traditional football fans.
After redefining the space with our back-to-back Anime schedule releases and our Sims execution in 2024, our challenge in 2025 wasn’t simply to go bigger, it was to go deeper. We wanted to build a schedule release that felt native to the gaming audience while remaining unmistakably Chargers. The objective was to create a fully immersive, platform-authentic experience that respected Minecraft’s community and mechanics, rather than borrowing its aesthetic.
Minecraft gave us the opportunity to transform a schedule announcement into a digital world fans could explore, decode, and share. We set out to build something layered with discovery that rewarded curiosity, sparked conversation, and lived well beyond release night.
Strategy & Execution
We approached this project as a true gaming experience, not just a themed video. By building each scene natively in Minecraft on a dedicated server, we created an immersive digital world that respected the game's mechanics, visuals, and culture.
The custom-built map spanned more than 48 million square blocks, featuring original textures, skins, environments, and layered easter eggs designed for discovery. Using mods like Flashback and custom warp commands, we choreographed cinematic storytelling within the game engine itself — no external animation shortcuts.
Every scene was designed to reward fans who paused, rewatched, and explored. By combining authentic Minecraft world-building with Chargers storytelling, we created a crossover experience that felt native to gamers while expanding the boundaries of how NFL fans interact with schedule release content.
