ABOUT THIS ENTRY

This entry is a collection of content across multiple mediums that showcases our creative campaign for the inaugural season of Clemson Gymnastics. Our goal was to create the greatest show in South Carolina through eye-catching photography and social graphics, professional-quality video storytelling, and an unforgettable in-venue experience.

How does this represent “Excellence in Engagement”?

In just their first year as a program, Clemson Gymnastics achieved top-10 rankings in total attendance and social media engagement. Clemson Gymnastics should be THE example of how to launch a new women's program in college athletics.

Objective

When our creative team met with Head Coach Amy Smith prior to her team's inaugural season, she had one request, make Clemson Gymnastics the greatest show in South Carolina. She wanted flash, showmanship, a Las Vegas-style show in the upstate of South Carolina. We also needed to convince a community that was unfamiliar with gymnastics, that they should show up and support this team. Lastly, we needed to convince the next generation of gymnasts that they should consider coming to Clemson to be a part of this team. At the core, we needed to generate social engagement that converted to physical engagement.

Strategy & Execution

Our team created cohesive content that spanned multiple mediums and platforms. Still photo, graphics, mobile video, short-form social content, long-form social content, podcasts, and a six-episode docuseries. All of this content was distributed using the @ClemsonGymnastics, @ClemsonTigers, and @ClemsonFB social channels, and was also shown in-venue at our marquee home events, including football, men's and women's basketball, and baseball. Graphics were also displayed on our external video boards across campus. This dispersion of content allowed us to reach a wide range of demographics, from the 13-17 year old recruit who had never heard of Clemson, to the 70 year old lifelong Clemson fan. Our six-episode docuseries, Building Legends, chronicles the process of building a Division I gymnastics team. The trailer for the first episode is included in the media upload section. Two episodes were released prior to the submission cutoff. Our podcast, Hot Mic, features the brightest stars in Clemson Athletics. Head Coach Amy Smith and freshman Lilly Lippeatt were both featured this season. We wanted our photos, graphics, and in-venue videos to have a consistent look. The shimmering tiles, bright lights, and sparks are all for the purpose of creating that Las Vegas feel.
