UCL Today, CBS Sports’ UEFA Champions League studio show, has redefined the paradigm and become the model for success of soccer studio shows across the globe. An American production has become the fan favorite of global soccer/football and the show that players and coaches consistently watch. Despite its creation less than five years ago, the show has already become a mainstay in soccer media, driving 6.7 billion video views on social media platforms in 2025, including nearly 1,000 videos with 1 million+ views alone. CBS Sports Golazo social handles have grown to nearly 15 million followers in that span. How does this represent "Excellence in Engagement"?

CBS Sports’ thoroughly covered an on-field incident in February 2026 where Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr. received racial comments made against him. The Athletic’s Adam Crafton summarized the coverage by saying, “In these moments, as the world’s gaze fixes on the Champions League, CBS increasingly dominates the global conversation. Across Tuesday and Wednesday night, clips from UCL Today combined for over 20 million views across platforms, but also set the tenor of the debate across the English-speaking world.”

Whether enaging fans with funny interviews or in-depth discussions on serious topics, UCL Today has become the go-to destination for football fans across the globe.

Whether it’s fans from all over the world being in on the jokes with the UCL Today crew or the likes of Pep Guardiola, Jude Bellingham and Erling Haaland, CBS Sports’ UEFA Champions League studio show has clearly left its mark on global football. Players and coaches often seek out the show and want to appear on post-match interviews.

The goal of the show and its distribution on social media is to entertain and inform.

Objective

UCL Today, CBS Sports’ UEFA Champions League studio show, has redefined the paradigm and become the model for success of soccer studio shows across the globe. An American production has become the fan favorite of global soccer/football and the show that players and coaches consistently watch.

Few studio shows in global sports television demonstrate the consistent excellence, cultural impact, and magnetic talent of UCL Today. Over the past year, the program has not only elevated American coverage of the world’s most prestigious club competition, it has also become an international phenomenon. Through breakthrough social engagement, industry‑leading storytelling, and a universally acclaimed on‑air team—Kate Scott, Thierry Henry, Jamie Carragher, and Micah Richards—UCL Today stands unmatched in craft, creativity, and resonance.

Despite its creation less than five years ago, the show has already become a mainstay in soccer media, driving 6.7 billion video views on social media platforms in 2025, including nearly 1,000 videos with 1 million+ views alone. CBS Sports Golazo social handles have grown to more than 13 million followers in that span. Despite only airing in the United States, the social clips from the show consistently receive millions of views each week stateside, across Europe and throughout the world.

Strategy & Execution

This year, CBS Sports soccer coverage distinguished itself in the sports media landscape through original programming and live event innovations. The UEFA Men's and Women's Champions League Crossover brought two days of elite European football live from London, with THE GOLAZO SHOW capturing every goal from 27 matches and creating a unified global viewing moment with studio coverage spanning both competitions in one show.

The “Beckham & Friends Live” series of altcasts on Paramount+ merged sports, celebrity culture and global fandom. Hosted by David Beckham with appearances from his celebrity friends including Tom Cruise, Odell Beckham Jr., Stanley Tucci and James Corden, the altcasts highlighted dynamic storytelling and exciting reactions alongside world class action on the pitch.

Social media is closely integrated with the production, with content made with social in mind. Social media staffers are given access to on-air talent to create bespoke and behind-the-scenes content that gives fans an even deeper look into their personalities. Fans are part of the regular inside jokes and come to know the on-air talent as people and not just as television personalities.

Host Kate Scott takes fans through the biggest moments and across cultures with her ability to live translate from Spanish, French and German into English.
