Los Angeles Chargers Minecraft Schedule Release
The 7th Annual Awards
- Best Documentary: Short-Form

ABOUT THIS ENTRY
The Los Angeles Chargers created a fully immersive schedule release inside Minecraft, transforming the annual NFL announcement into a fast-paced, detail-packed short-form experience. The custom-built game world, layered humor, and dense easter eggs, turning the video into a viral fan moment that drove league-leading views, engagement, and cultural conversation.
How does this represent "Excellence in Engagement"?
The most important elements of this execution were authenticity and intention. Our Minecraft schedule release video delivered immediate visual impact, layered humor, and matchup reveals within a tightly constructed narrative that never lost momentum. The pacing rewarded focused viewing, while the density of easter eggs encouraged replay and social conversation.
Rather than relying on a trending format, we created a fully immersive world that felt authentic to gaming culture while remaining accessible to NFL fans. The result was a short-form piece that generated league-leading performance, cross-industry recognition, and sustained engagement.
It wasn’t just concise — it was crafted. And its ability to dominate views, interactions, and cultural conversation proves its effectiveness as a strategic short-form execution.
Objective
The goal was to create a short-form schedule release that would stand out across the NFL while authentically connecting with both football fans and the Minecraft community. Schedule release is one of the most competitive content moments in sports. Our objective was to deliver a concise, high-impact video that captured attention immediately, sustained momentum throughout, and rewarded repeat viewing.
Rather than relying on a single joke or gimmick, we aimed to build a dense, layered narrative packed with cultural references, humor, and easter eggs — ensuring the piece felt intentional, immersive, and distinctly Chargers. We set out to create a short-form video that didn’t just announce games, but created a moment fans would replay, dissect, and share.
Strategy & Execution
We built the entire experience natively inside Minecraft, constructing a 48+ million square block custom world designed specifically for the video. Every scene, texture, and character was developed to feel authentic to the game while telling our schedule story.
The short-form structure was intentionally tight and fast-paced. Each matchup reveal was embedded within immersive environments layered with visual jokes and hidden references. The density of detail encouraged replay and community discussion.
Filming took place across 30+ sessions, with team members acting as in-game characters to add personality and movement. Using in-game cinematic tools, we choreographed camera movements and transitions to ensure the final piece flowed seamlessly. The result was a concise, immersive short-form video that balanced technical craft, humor, and cultural credibility.
