Los Angeles Chargers: Super Chargers Gameday Experience
The 7th Annual Awards
- Best New Fan Experience

ABOUT THIS ENTRY
To introduce the new all navy alternate uniforms, the Los Angeles Chargers transformed SoFi Stadium into a fully immersive 1990s–early 2000s “Super Chargers” time capsule. The Chargers blended the nostalgia of the San Diego era with the most advanced stadium technology in the NFL and created a modern throwback that honored legacy while driving measurable fan emotion and engagement.
How does this represent "Excellence in Engagement"?
Most throwback games rely on uniforms and limited creative overlays. Our execution, what we call a “modern throwback” was a historically precise, emotionally immersive experience delivered through cutting-edge technology.
Excellence in engagement means moving beyond surface nostalgia to create meaningful emotional connection. By treating Chargers history as cultural preservation rather than decoration, we built an experience that resonated deeply across generations.
Every element, from visuals, audio, pacing, tone, and storytelling was aligned to create immersion. The result felt less like attending a current NFL game and more like stepping into a preserved chapter of franchise history.
This activation demonstrated that legacy, when executed with authenticity and innovation, can drive measurable impact, strengthen brand affinity, enhance home-field advantage, and set a new standard for experiential storytelling in the NFL.
Objective
Our vision was to create more than a themed game, we aimed to honor tradition, evoke emotion and create an unforgettable gameday experience. For the longtime San Diego fans, we sought to authentically recreate the sights, sounds and spirit of the Super Chargers era so they felt transported back in time. For newer fans, the goal was culture education and connection to past traditions. Everything from broadcast style, music, visual graphics and videos was crafted to honor this unforgettable era in Chargers franchise history.
We ensured every touchpoint, from brand design, in-stadium visuals, music programing, features and in-game moments were all intentionally curated. This was not nostalgia for aesthetics sake, it was an effort to preserve Chargers history while inviting in the new generation of fans to make it our own.
Strategy & Execution
We re-engineered the stadium environment at both physical and digital levels. The field-level border walls and logo design in the end zones were completely redesigned to mirror the era and make you feel like you were back in Qualcomm Stadium. We created original touchdown animations and key-moment graphics to deploy across SoFi’s state-of-the-art video systems. These were paired with era-specific music playlists so kickoffs, sacks, touchdowns and timeouts reflected the authentic soundscape of the late 1990s and early 2000s.
During halftime of the first Super Chargers game we honored Super Chargers era legend, Rodney Harrision into the Chargers Hall of Fame, creating an authentic tie from past to present. Beyond the stadium, we developed a cohesive “Super Chargers” creative package spanning social media, broadcast, custom merch and app integrations, ensuring continuity across every fan touchpoint.
This was not a surface-level theme. It was a full creative and production rebuild powered by modern venue technology, enabling us to faithfully reconstruct a historic experience while delivering it at today’s scale and quality.
