Los Angeles Chargers Win Memes
The 7th Annual Awards
- Best Use of Culture, Music or Entertainment

ABOUT THIS ENTRY
The Chargers’ Win Meme series was made to redefine how a team shows up after a win by reframing victory posts as culturally relevant moments rooted in internet culture. Designed to break through the noise of crowded gameday timelines, memes drove game stories in a way that felt conversational and native to the platforms they live on. By staying attuned to internet culture, fan sentiment and league discourse, we were able to expand reach and deepen lore around every win.
How does this represent "Excellence in Engagement"?
Fans now expect a similar cadence following a win in sports: a standard victory graphic and celebration photos. By leaning into win memes and helping spark a broader NFL trend, we directly tied our wins to internet culture. In doing so, we could expand reach while deepening the meaning and lore of each win. In this competitive landscape, you need more than just a well-producing football team to grow your fan base; we found cultural relevance does and it is our most authentic and effective way to engage.
Objective
Our unique, punchy and on-the-internet voice was initially developed in congruence with the team's move to Los Angeles. As a franchise entering a new market, we saw an opportunity to lean into culture, entertainment and internet fluency to differentiate ourselves from the rest of the league. This season we hit our stride with Win Memes, which drove the story of the game in a refreshing, comedic way. Regardless of the outcome on the field, our goal was simple: have fun and show personality while creating moments that felt native to the platforms we were engaging with.
On gameday, attention is fragmented and timelines are saturated with opposing teams, official league channels and aggregator accounts. The Win Memes were designed to break through that noise, capturing immediate attention following a victory and turning into a culturally relevant moment. By committing to an authentic, internet-forward tone, the series positioned the Chargers as leaders in digital creativity, using culture as a bridge to build relevance, community and brand affinity.
Strategy & Execution
While meme creation may seem silly, our strategy centered on intentionality and preparation. Each week, we hosted 2-3 meme ideation meetings focused on opponent-specific concepts, building a comprehensive slate of potential creative for gameday. Every idea was pressure-tested— not just for humor, but for the larger story it would tell about the moment, matchup and our voice as a brand.
Beyond the primary win meme, we developed ancillary content tied to analyst predictions, division narratives and even broader league stories to ensure we could participate in the full conversation surrounding the game. Because no games unfold the same way, and even wins are not perceived equally, we created multiple variations for each week. Close finishes, comeback victories, and dominant player performances were all considered as they required a different tone. By preparing flexible options in advance, we could pivot in real time and share something that felt immediate, contextually keen, and culturally relevant.
Meme executions were designed to feel conversational. For fans, it feels as if they were created alongside them, with their input. By staying attuned to internet trends, fan sentiment and league discourse, we reinforced the sense that the Chargers were not only culturally aware, but actively in dialogue with our community.
