NBA Finals Game 7: The Ultimate Multi-Platform Takeover
The 7th Annual Awards
- Best on Multi-Platform

ABOUT THIS ENTRY
When the NBA Finals reached a winner-take-all Game 7 for the first time in nine years, the NBA transformed the moment into a fully orchestrated, multi-platform cultural takeover. Anchored by the cinematic launch of “Game 7: The Movie” and amplified across every @NBA social channel, digital product, third-party ecosystem and creator network, the activation blended eight decades of history with real-time storytelling to convert global anticipation into record-breaking engagement and viewership.
How does this represent "Excellence in Engagement"?
This activation set a new benchmark for how sports leagues orchestrate tentpole moments across fragmented digital ecosystems. Rather than treating each platform as a distribution outlet, we designed each as a strategic role player in one unified narrative. Instagram drove urgency, X fueled real-time voice, Threads embedded product integrations, YouTube delivered prestige storytelling, TikTok and Snapchat captured nostalgia and creator culture, and the NBA App personalized the experience, while push notifications converted emotion into action.
We transformed a single game into a 48-hour digital cultural moment - activating legends, teams, celebrities, creators, media outlets and fans in one synchronized conversation.
The result was not simply high engagement - it was ecosystem-wide participation. Non-NBA accounts contributed hundreds of millions of views. Historical footage educated younger fans. Emerging stars were introduced to global audiences. Social storytelling directly correlated with broadcast growth.
In a media landscape constantly going up against fragmentation, the NBA Finals Game 7 takeover demonstrated that when executed cohesively, multi-platform strategy can unify audiences at scale — setting a new standard for sports engagement worldwide.
Objective
An NBA Finals Game 7 represents the most dramatic stage in sports, and in 2025, the league was presented with a unique opportunity. The matchup featured two emerging teams led by young stars and a new generation of fans that had never experienced an NBA Finals Game 7 in real time.
Our objective was twofold:
- Elevate “Game 7” into a standalone cultural brand moment beyond the specific teams involved.
- Convert social and digital engagement into live broadcast viewership while reinforcing the NBA’s position as the most innovative and engaged global sports league.
Rather than rely solely on traditional highlights or promotional tune-in messaging, we set out to create a fully immersive, multi-platform narrative experience. We aimed to educate younger fans on the magnitude of a winner-take-all Finals, activate legends and celebrities who had lived the moment, and turn social media into the primary engine driving urgency, emotion and cultural conversation in the 48 hours leading to tip-off.
Strategy & Execution
We executed a synchronized, platform-native takeover across every NBA-owned and partner surface.
Hero Catalyst:
- We debuted “Game 7: The Movie,” a nine-minute cinematic film weaving eight decades of NBA Finals Game 7 history into one narrative. The film reframed the matchup as a legacy-defining moment.
Platform-Specific Activation:
- Instagram: DMs (direct messages) from legends and celebrities about what Game 7 means to them, Broadcast Channel alerts, countdown stickers, polls and collaborative posts with teams and broadcast partners.
- X: Native fan and creator predictions, hourly countdowns and bold, urgency-driven voice.
- Threads: Live integrations including animated Like buttons, LIVE search bar takeover and direct fan replies.
- YouTube: Longform historic Game 7 endings + Cultural Moments homepage placement.
- TikTok & Snapchat: Historical Game 7 nostalgia, creator reposting and episodic storytelling.
- NBA App & Push: In-app countdown clocks, personalized messages, and push alerts tied to key storylines.
- Reddit & Bluesky: Real-time community engagement and live conversation feeds.
Simultaneously, we activated legends (LeBron, Wade, Ray Allen), global celebrities and third-party accounts to extend the moment beyond league channels.
