For the global launch of WWE 2K25 Mobile on Netflix, Fresh Tape Media created a high-impact commercial starring WWE Superstar Jey Uso that brings the chaos and spectacle of the ring into an everyday office environment. Built around a striking mid-air freeze moment at the peak of a finishing move, the spot visually captures the game’s core promise: when you can play anywhere, WWE can happen anywhere.

How does this represent "Excellence in Engagement"?

Video game trailers have traditionally relied on gameplay footage to showcase new releases. For WWE 2K25 Mobile, we took a different approach, building the story around superstar personality and cinematic spectacle instead of gameplay mechanics alone.

By centering the commercial on WWE Superstar Jey Uso and a visually striking in-air moment, the trailer blurred the line between sports entertainment, gaming, and cinematic storytelling. The result was a piece of content that reached beyond core gaming audiences, capturing the attention of casual viewers who may not regularly follow WWE or video games but were immediately drawn in by the energy and spectacle.

Objective

Netflix tasked Fresh Tape Media with developing creative around the tagline: “When you have the freedom to play anywhere, the WWE can happen everywhere.” The goal was to translate the immersive energy of WWE into a commercial that would resonate with both wrestling fans and mobile gamers while reinforcing the accessibility of WWE 2K25 Mobile.

Rather than building the trailer around gameplay footage, we staged a fully choreographed WWE-style moment inside an unexpected environment: a corporate office. When Jey Uso launches into the air for the finishing move, time suddenly stops. The suspended action becomes the central visual metaphor for the game itself, capturing the sensation that players are controlling the action in real time.

By focusing on a single unforgettable visual moment, the commercial delivered a clear, cinematic expression of the game’s core idea: WWE action can break into your world anywhere you play.

Strategy & Execution

While our primary objective was to create a compelling TV commercial, we knew that this would also live on social media where the modern sports fan consumes a lot of their content. In order to capture their attention in a crowded landscape, the creative approach prioritized a visually arresting moment that would capture attention instantly and translate seamlessly across platforms. 

The spot opens with Jey Uso mid-slam, frozen in mid-air, an unexpected and highly dynamic image designed to hook viewers within the first few seconds. This immediate visual impact ensures the commercial performs effectively in both television and social feeds where audiences make split-second decisions about whether to continue watching.

Casting Jey Uso was also central to the strategy. As one of WWE’s most charismatic and recognizable performers, his presence immediately signals authenticity to wrestling fans while bringing infectious energy to the performance. His signature style and athleticism allowed the stunt choreography to feel true to WWE spectacle while grounding the concept in a recognizable star.

From choreography to camera movement and VFX, every element was designed to create a cinematic moment that felt larger than life while remaining accessible and entertaining for casual viewers.
