ABOUT THIS ENTRY

Quarterback represents everything Peyton Manning has invested in his career in the NFL and afterwards. Partnering with NFL Films and taking a long-form documentary approach with Netflix, Quarterback places fans inside the pressure, preparation, and precision required to serve as the offense’s command center.

Season two extends the authenticity with human stories from people who took the hits, made the throws, and ran out the clock when it counted. Following Joe Burrow, Jared Goff, and Kirk Cousins, the series spotlights the defining moments of the 2024-2025 season for the Bengals, Lions, and Vikings. Quarterback features a combination of mic’d up moments on the field with behind-the-scenes footage of year players recovery, family life, and weekly routines to capture the full picture of what it means to be QB.

How does this represent "Excellence in Engagement"?

Quarterback has the rare power to transform fans from passive viewers to invested insiders. Pairing cinematic production value with unprecedented access, Omaha Productions delivers a premium, binge-worthy experience that fans can’t get anywhere else.

Engagement extends beyond the screen. Each episode fueled real-time conversation across sports media, social platforms, and locker rooms, with fans, analysts, and former players debating pivotal decisions and gaining new appreciation for the mental demands of the position.

The level of engagement accomplished by Quarterback brings even higher emotional stakes than watching a regular game. By experiencing mic’d-up, on-the-field moments, as well as intimate conversations between the players and their loved ones, fans become more invested in the lives of the players themselves, and more appreciative of the work that goes into delivering a strong NFL season. Over the past two seasons, Quarterback has built sustained connections between fans and players, broadened the NFL’s global appeal, and told stories that keep audiences talking long after the clock runs out.

Objective

Quarterback has been a work-in-progress passion project for Omaha Productions creator, Peyton Manning, since before he founded the production company in 2020. The goal from the first snap: tell stories of people playing, or that have played, the hardest position in the NFL — spare no details and lean into grit, challenge, and authenticity.

In its first season, Quarterback served as one of Omaha’s marquee docuseries in its “follow-doc” format. With Peyton Manning at the helm, the opportunity to take fans truly behind the scenes and capture the joys and pressures of serving as QB was within reach. The team simply needed to do the storytelling justice by building trust with its core subjects, capturing the moments that matter, and piecing together a cohesive story from start to finish. After a successful first season, Quarterback returned with the objective to build on that foundation by refining the formula, deepening the access, and delivering an even more immersive, fully realized story.

Strategy & Execution

The beauty of Omaha’s follow-doc format lies in the unknown. Cameras begin rolling without a predetermined storyline, trusting that over the course of a season, the natural drama of the game — intertwined with each quarterback’s personal highs, setbacks, and defining moments — will reveal a narrative worth telling. That philosophy reached new heights with Quarterback, an unprecedented project in both scale and depth within the NFL.

Through a partnership with NFL Films, Omaha Productions secured unparalleled access to game footage, paired with intimate, off-field moments at home and in recovery to deliver a true 360-degree portrait of life as an NFL quarterback. Netflix, selected for its global reach and premium documentary expertise, became the ideal distribution partner for a series of this ambition.

Known for its signature live programming, including Monday Night Football with Peyton and Eli, Omaha made a deliberate pivot into documentary storytelling with Quarterback. Executing a production of this magnitude required company-wide collaboration — from analyzing game film navigating the first-ever NFL–Netflix partnership. That flexibility and creative problem-solving powered a polished final product and positioned Omaha for even more ambitious unscripted storytelling ahead.
