”He Beat the Streets” A poem by Moses Moody
The 7th Annual Awards
- Excellence in Black Storytelling
ABOUT THIS ENTRY
For Black History Month, the Golden State Warriors content team found video of a poem Moses Moody recited in front of his school in high school while growing up in Arkansas. Moses sits down to discuss the meaning, while weaving through and looking back at his delivery in front of his whole high school.
How does this represent "Excellence in Engagement"?
This video was untraditional and bucked all previous trends for us, especially on Instagram. It showed that content pieces like this have the power to cut throw the noise on busy social platforms like Instagram and find an audience. And it demonstrated an exceptional amout of trust between the athlete and our Studio team who produced it.
Objective
For the Warriors, Black History Month is more than the month of February, and our Beyond 28 strategy focuses on highlighting Black stories 365 days a year.
In 2024, we were able to bring this story to life with the help of Moses Moody, and deliver a riveting piece of Black storytelling to our global fanbase.
Strategy & Execution
The idea came from a member of our Studio team who heard Moses Moody's high school poem and noticed how great Moses was at delivering it at such a young age.
We approached Moses with the idea to talk about the poem and his performance, and interwove the two videos together.
