ABOUT THIS ENTRY
This documentary style podcast tells the story of the modern history of professional basketball through the eyes of sportscaster Hannah Storm, who interviews many of the games biggest stars. The daughter of former ABA commissioner Mike Storen, she has the singular perspective of having lived basketball for six decades, through the ABA, NBA and WNBA.
How does this represent "Excellence in Engagement"?
This is a hybrid podcast, derivative of Storms experience as a documentary film producer. The stories may be of an historical nature but contain modern day revelations. Storms skill as an interviewer provides fascinating insight into the events and characters that she profiles, as well as education for the modern basketball fan, and a personal history of being a pioneering woman in sportscasting.
Objective
Storm has long wanted to tell this story, particularly to honor the work of her father and those entrepreneurs who created the renegade ABA league, which initiated so many of the aspects of the modern game such as three pointers, slam dunks, entertainment and the style of play that modern fans have become accustomed to. The NBA asked Storm to write a summary of her story and then decided to partner with her and I heart on a multi-part podcast.
Strategy & Execution
This is an historical look at the game of basketball, strutted around a very personal narrative with touch points of Storm’s firsthand experiences, growing up around basketball and then covering the game on the biggest of stages. The roster of guests is very familiar to the modern fan, who learn a lot about why the game looks the way it does today, and those building blocks that led to its current success.
