A profile on six incarcerated people at San Quentin Rehabilitation Center who use the team’s in-house basketball team, the San Quentin Warriors, and media center as a source of reinvention. The episode dives in to how basketball serves as a beacon of hope, while providing a behind-the-scenes look at the Golden State Warriors players and staff annual visits which have been happening for over a decade.
How does this represent "Excellence in Engagement"?
Reiterating this was not our typical basketball highlight video, we were encouraged to see it reached over 400K impressions. This content and storytelling has an audience, and we need to continue to tell the stories of how basketball can unite.
Objective
This piece was meant to highlight the Golden State Warriors work in the community, and help shed light on the rehabilitation process in one of the most notorious correctional facilities in the state of California, and how basketball can connect people who are separated by physical and metaphorical walls.
Strategy & Execution
Our Studio team was granted access to shoot the video during the Warriors annual visit to San Quentin. We interviewed six incarcerated individuals as well as members of our team and front office who attended the visit, and have them share their stories and how basketball has been a positive force in their lives.
