How does this represent "Excellence in Engagement"?

The mission at Yahoo Sports is to make sports fans smarter. It achieves this with content that prioritizes quality over click bait. It also builds products that make it easier for fans to discover quality content. In the case of the redesigned Yahoo Fantasy app, Yahoo Sports deftly married content and product design with a prominent news tab that surfaces expert analysis and advice from Yahoo Fantasy analysts. Via the news tab, users can access shows such as Yahoo Fantasy Forecast, as well as Yahoo Fantasy University, an online guide that helps fans uplevel their fantasy knowledge and skills. For first-time fantasy players, Fantasy University teaches the basics on signing up, drafting and managing a team. For experienced users, the program teaches the finer points of fantasy strategy. By serving as a reliable destination for information, the Yahoo Fantasy app is helping a new generation of fans to learn how to play – and enjoy – fantasy sports. It also is helping fans navigate an increasingly fragmented media landscape dominated by social media consumption across multiple platforms. Now, fans have a central location they can regularly visit for the news and information they need to set a winning fantasy line-up.

Objective

According to a recent survey of 1,000 people conducted in partnership between Yahoo Sports and DKC Analytics, 22% of respondents indicated that they would be new to fantasy football in 2024. In addition, there is a common perception – especially amongst people who have never played before – that fantasy sports take too much time or are too hard to play. With an increasing number of people playing fantasy sports every year, it’s critical for fantasy products to be accessible, easy to use, and fun.

That’s precisely the goal Yahoo Sports set out to achieve by redesigning its Yahoo Fantasy app in 2024. The new app aims to make it easier and more exciting for people to play fantasy sports. It represents the company’s most significant fantasy sports innovation this decade – and one of its most important updates in its 25-year history of delivering award-winning fantasy experiences.

Strategy & Execution

The redesigned Yahoo Fantasy app features a bold new look and easy-to-use features to help users have more fun and set a winning lineup, faster. A hallmark of the redesign is a streamlined global navigation with three updated tabs – Home, News, and Scores – that guide users more quickly to the information they need to make smart roster decisions. The app also features bright new colors, engaging visuals, and a refreshed app loading screen, as well as more than 100 new fantasy team logos to give users more ways to express their personality. Every element of the redesign was thoughtfully considered. Users can easily swipe left or right to navigate within the app. The app also brings more players into view on the screen and features a new, modern drawer experience to make it easier to select a player for a roster spot. When it comes to fantasy sports, knowledge is power. The news tab gets knowledge in the hands of users faster, as a simple swipe brings users directly to fantasy advice from Yahoo Sports experts. The app also uses artificial intelligence to generate recaps for users’ drafts and weekly match-ups – all with personality and humor customized to each team.
